Sugar is naturally present in all fruits, honey, dairy products, and vegetables. These are present in whole and unprocessed foods. Added sugars and high sugar consumption are known to harm the human body both internally and externally. Consuming natural sugar is perfectly healthy for your body but consuming added sugars is a raising alarm.

One of the most harmful things to human health is sugar. It is one of the main causes of metabolic problems, which include obesity, diabetes, and polycystic ovaries in young women, to mention a few. The majority of sugars include fructose and glucose in different proportions, with sucrose having a fructose and glucose ratio of 50:50.

What is the normal sugar level of the body?

The normal level in the body ranges from 72 to 99 mg/dL at the time of fasting and can go up to 140 mg/dL approximately 2 hours after eating. Blood sugar level keeps on fluctuating the entire day. They are lowest in the morning or after fasting. When the body digests food, the levels rise in the body. Each person has a different level which depends on their lifestyle and food-eating habits.

Your body maintains sugar automatically in the body in the required quantities. If you have diabetes, then you will require external help from the doctor in the form of insulin to maintain the accurate quantity of sugars in the body. Nowadays, the level keeps on changing in the human body due to the change in the lifestyle of the young generation, junk food consumption, and bakery product consumption.

Hypoglycemia is a situation when blood sugar in the human body is 70 mg/dL or less. Hyperglycaemia is a situation when blood sugar in the human body is more than 180 mg/dL. Hyperglycaemia arises when there are high levels in the body, i.e., more than 180 mg/dL.

There are numerous high blood sugar symptoms that the human body faces both internally and externally. High blood sugar can lead to:

  • Bloating and Weight Gain: The number one reason for weight gain and unexplained bloating. Overproduction of gas leads to unexplained bloating. People who are trying to shed some weight, stop their intake of sugars first.
  • Cravings and Hunger: Sugar intake fills your stomach easily and acts as an additive for your next meal. This will increase your hunger even more the next time because the sugar foods have very less nutrients to fill your stomach.
  • Improper sleep: Eating sugar at night can lead to an increase in energy at the time when your body is preparing to rest and sleep.
  • Fatigue: Increase in sugar can lead to fatigue and tiredness in the human body. After the consumption of sugar, the pancreas releases insulin to help in the transfer of glucose to the cells, which results in a surge of energy. This may drain your energy.
  • Poor skin health: An increase in sugar consumption can damage skin proteins, and collagen over time, resulting in poor skin health and premature aging.

Food items that have high sugar

Candies, Cakes, Cookies, Pastries, Doughnuts, Ice cream, Soft drinks, Energy drinks, and Juice drinks. These food items are very harmful to the human body when consumed regularly and in large quantities. They have a very bad effect on the immune system of growing children or teenagers. If you consume these food items that have high content on a limited basis, then it’s perfectly ok. Children under the age group of 2-18 should consume only 6 teaspoons of added sugar in one day. Excess of it can lead to hormone imbalance as well in their body.

Honey mixed with lime and hot water in the morning is very beneficial for the body. Replacement can be with honey in dishes and tea is also a healthy option for your life. Avoid artificial flavours and packaged foods. However, there is a limit to everything. We should eat consume natural sugars also in a limited quantity so that we gain benefits from them, not harm.

The correct thing to do is to consume meals that are composed of healthy fats, fibre vegetables, proteins like dals, eggs, paneer, cheese, nuts, fish, poultry, and meat, as well as modest amounts of carbs. Because one has control over the materials used in home-cooked meals, it is always preferable to not go for purchased food.

So, cut down your intake and you will begin to observe changes in yourself and your body over some time. You will feel good, energetic, and healthy inside your entire day. You will productivity will improve as well.
